Visiting Kailua Beach you would have "chilled" in the shade of the ironwood trees that today are now stumps.
Planted in 1906 as a windbreak for mango and coconut trees along the shores of Kailua Beach, Hawaii, the ironwood trees faced the relentless effects of rising tides that slowly eroded the earth and sand beneath them.
To safeguard against potential harm, the City and County of Honolulu and the State of Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources made the difficult decision to cut down these trees. However, rather than letting these giant wood logs go to waste, they were diverted to B.C. FRaME Studio where Brian harnessed their natural beauty.
Grain
A Symphony of Character and Charm, the grain of Kailua Beach ironwood is as diverse as the stories it tells. From gentle ripples resembling flowing water to bold, swirling designs that evoke the forces of nature, each piece is a unique masterpiece. The grain's richness and depth add character and charm, making every ironwood creation truly one-of-a-kind.
Guardians
Planted along the Kailua shoreline in 1906 to serve as a wind break for coconut and mango trees, Ironwood trees were the guardians for a food supply.
Chance Opportunity
Riding along the beach park pathway to bring my children home from school was the chance opportunity to divert the truckload of ironwood logs to studio B. C. FRaME in 2015.
Hard like Iron
Crafting movable pieces from the colossal ironwood logs demanded repeated chainsaw blade sharpening.
Seasoning
Slowly, over years, to create solid, long-lasting, stable material, seasoning is the process of removing the bound moisture.
Beach inside
Additional seating or coffee table space ready for your entertainment. Sanded and sealed with a mixture Polyurethane/ Acrylic water based finish, choose one or multiples of 10 to 11 inch tall (25-28 cm) "stumps".
Chipped
Chisel and hammer, chips come natural to the slip of the grain.
New beginning
Small gifts to keep Hawaii with you, open a new beginning for the trees that were cut due to rising oceans and beach erosion.
